Brynn Esplin, a senior at Timpview High, finished second in the girls 5A final at the Utah High School Activities Association state meet at the Soldier Hollow course in Midway. Esplin, a transfer from La Cueva High in New Mexico, covered the 5-kilometer layout in 20:06.5 to lead Timpview to a sixth-place finish with 189 points. Esplin finished fourth in the New Mexico 5A state final last season for La Cueva.
