The US#5 Farmington boys put five in front of US#10 American Fork's third man Wednesday in a much anticipated 6A championship final at the Regional Athletic Complex in Salt Lake City.

Farmington, a school that opened in the fall of 2018, first ascended to the top of the podium last year when it won the 5A championship at Soldier Hollow. In its first year in the state's largest classification, a deep and committed group of senior boys brought home the title with 49 points.

Perennial Utah power American Fork, the first boys program in state history to win 5A and 6A championships in consecutive years, was second with 68 points.

Up front, though, American Fork's Nate Jaster had his best performance of the season at just the right time and was the only boy to dip under 15 minutes, taking the win in 14:55.5. Jaster won by 11 seconds to defend his title from last season, overcoming testing positive for COVID-19 in January and enduring lung scarring as a result.

Jaster achieved the 10th individual title for American Fork in the past 13 seasons and became the first competitor for the Cavemen to capture back-to-back championships since Casey Clinger won a pair in 5A in 2015-16.

The US#20 American Fork girls, led by Avalon Mecham's second-place finish, won the 6A team title with 70 points for its first championship since 2018. Lone Peak, winner of the past two titles, was second with 89.

Addi Bruening of Herriman ran the fastest time of the day among all of the girls, clocking 17:28.3 to lead her team to a sixth-place finish. Bruening secured the first title by a Herriman female since Lucy Biles won three in a row, including twice in 5A, from 2012-14.

Earlier in the day in the 5A finals, Liam Heninger led a deep Mountain View boys team to the title with his fourth-place finish. The Bruins placed five scorers in the top 30 to prevail by an 88-156 margin over Timpanogos, capturing their first team title since winning 4A in 2011.

Up front, Jefferson McMullin from Lehi and Tayson Echohawk from Orem battled for the individual title. They went through 2 miles together, but McMullin, 11th last year, pulled ahead late and took the win in 15:06.8 and Echohawk, who improved from 24th last season, was second in 15:22.1.

Springville received a fifth-place finish from freshman Savannah Galbraith and put a trio of girls across in seventh, eighth and ninth — Emily Sumsion, Sarah Galbraith and Adri Bird — and won the team title with 44 points, extending the longest championship streak by any program in the state to four in a row.

Raygan Peterson of Timpanogos won the 5A race in 18:15.0, earning the first girls individual title in program history.

The Cedar boys dominated the action in Class 4A, with Logan Peel taking the win (15:36.7) and leading four scorers inside the top 10. Cedar scored 35 points.

Cedar's Carissa Hofeling and Emma Page went 1-2 in th girls race, but it was the depth of Pine View that took the day. Hofeling improved from 18th place last year and Page was 35th in the 5A final last season for Wasatch, before joining the Lady Reds this year.

Pine View, which secured its third consecutive championship, had big advantages at Nos. 3 and 4 and scored 60 points to beat Desert Hills (89) and Cedar (89). Hofeling's time of 17:52 was the fastest of the day until the 6A race and held up for fifth-best overall.

Ogden benefited from moving down from 4A last year and swept the team titles at the 3A level for the first time in program history. The Tigers, who were seventh in the 4A boys final last season, captured their first championship since 2012, with the girls — eighth last year at Cedar High — securing their first title since 2013.

Jack Blodgett led the way for the boys, winning the race in 15:50.7 after placing 33rd in 4A last season. The girls put five scorers between 10th and 21st place.

In Class 2A, the Millard boys stuck five runners in the top eight. Michael Ralphs improved from eighth place last season and led the team with a victory in 16:05.1 to secure back-to-back team titles for the Eagles.

The North Summit girls won handily, also, going 2-3-4-10-11, ending a three-year reign by Millard and capturing the first title for the program since winning five in a row from 2013-17.

Freshman Kyra Moat of Millard won the race in 20:42.3 to become the first female competitor for the Eagles to capture the individual crown since 2018, and the first ninth-grader to triumph in the classification since 1999.

Bryce Valley's boys and Panguitch's girls collected team titles in Class 1A.

Senior Brock Syrett prevailed for Bryce Valley, which captured the first boys championship in program history.

Panguitch junior Adelaide Englestead edged sophomore teammate Tabi Henrie by a 19:35.7 to 19:35.8 margin to repeat as girls 1A champion, extending the streak of individual winners for the Bobcats to five straight years, in addition to back-to-back team titles.
