The girls' state cross country championship on Wednesday at Sugar House Park was a mix of the old and the new. For Ogden senior Sarah Callister, it was a little bit of both.
In 2006, Callister burst onto the scene with a second-place finish in her sophomore year.
"It was a big thing for me because I was shooting for top 10," said Callister. "I did something I didn't think I could do."
And that success has carried her through the past two seasons. In fact, as she was rounding the duck pond before the final approach to the finish line, Callister's thoughts turned back to her sophomore year.

"That's where I passed the second-place girl as a sophomore,"

she said. "I just stopped and remembered how I felt and just used that."
Callister posted the second-fastest course time of the day to cruise to a 24-second victory over Park City's Gillian Gorelik for the Class 3A title.
